A-Team remote control van

Posted by Ub3rG33k on Dec 24, 2011 in Tech

Just a quick post to show you a bargain I got. As some of you may know, I have a handful of remote control vehicles, for example the Millennium Falcon and the Delorean, Well this one is just another cheap toy for the collection.

This one dropped from £40 to £8.99 with £1.99 shipping from the Argos outlet store

The description on the eBay site is ‘Fully functioning radio control van, featuring working lights and sound effects. A team theme tune is activated by pressing a button on the handset, with illuminating spotlights, headlights and tyre screeching sound effect.’…..for £11 I couldn’t really pass it up.

Well, it arrived yesterday and I’m pleasantly surprised. I have to admit, it does feel a bit cheap, but it drives well, and the A-Team tune did make me smile as I had it blearing out as I chased the cats around the room. The speaker is in the back of the van, so if you want to hear it over the sound of the motor whining you will need to open up the back doors.

Again, the ‘tyre screeching sound effect’ made me smile, take a corner hard and you’ll get the screeching noise.

All in all, a fun piece of kit for £11 :)

As always, unboxing photos below, and a video of the A-Team tune you get when you press the button on the controller.

Remote Control Delorean

Posted by Ub3rG33k on Mar 1, 2011 in Brain Dump, Tech

After playing with the Remote Control Millennium Falcon, I’ve been on the outlook for more nostalgic remote control vehicles.

To list just a few on my “To get” list are, the General Lee, the A-Team van, Knight Riders KITT and the Back to the Future Delorean. You can only imagine my joy when I saw that Argos were selling off the Deloeans for £12.99 each in their eBay outlet store. These are usually around the £30 mark, and if you look on eBay now, they seem to be going for between £30 – £50 (which I’d bought loads !)

To be honest, there’s not much to say…it’s a remote control Delorean :) …..and before you ask, I’ve attempted to get it up to 88 mph, but nothing seems to happen :)

Remote Control Millennium Falcon

Posted by Ub3rG33k on Dec 27, 2010 in Tech

On one of our many “I need some toys” visits to the local Toys R Us store, I noticed this little beauty, and felt I neeeeeeeded it. I’d originally gone over there to pick up a remote control helicopter, and ended up leaving with both.

The box read “Fly the Millennium Falcon”, “Easy to Fly”, and had the Hasbro logo in the corner which ticked the boxes for me.

I have to admit, it’s not bad looking, granted there is is a big hole in the middle of it, however the rest is highly detailed, and they’ve made some effort on the controller.

As this chargers from the remote, I have to admit, hiding the charge cable under they “cockpit type flap” was a nice touch.

So how does it fly ?…pretty bad in my opinion. I have various “change and fly” polystyrene helicopters and can successfully control them, and keep them in the air for the time it takes the battery to run down, this however was a mare !
I found I had to get within about a foot of it to initially respond, and the it would take off. Upon attempting to adjust the trim to it stopped spinning, it would just flip over and head for the ground ?….I then adjusted the trim while on the floor….great it flew straight….for a second or two….then would just flip over and head for the floor again ?

Maybe it will just take a little getting used to, but the other helicopter I bought, I was able to fly out of the box.

I’ve checked YouTube and they are flyable, I guess I’ll just have to master it….will post a video if/when this happens.

As always, unboxing pics below, and a YouTube video of one of these in action.
