The New and Improved Computer Room

Posted by Ub3rG33k on Mar 21, 2010 in Brain Dump

As you may have read, last week we got a couple of shiny new iMacs.  We did however see this as an opportunity to re do the computer room.

We’ve been living in this house for over 4 1/2 years now, and as with most people, the house just gets cluttered.

When we first moved in, we both had a PC each, both with 17″ CRT monitors, as we’ve upgraded our main machines, we’ve then built up a “server” machine to host the media on, and to be a terminal for me to dial in to.

In the last 4 1/2 years, we’ve upgraded the main PC’s twice, and then finally changed to iMacs, however I’ve always just kind of unplugged 1 machine, and plugged in the next, which means that the floor seems to get tangled up in cables.

We also had the server machine sat on one of our original desks, which was just taking up far too much room.

This is how the room looked before

So, we decided on the following

Curvy Wall Desk- Black and Silver Coloured. for the server

Hygena Matrix CD and DVD 7 Tier Media Shelves to replace the B&Q specials.

32in TV Stand – Black to put the Hi-Fi on

2 x Wall Mounts for the 22″ Monitors

2 x Mini Displayport to DVI Adapters to connect the above monitors

This is the result of all that hard work and cash

As you can see, it’s a massive improvement !

Apple day ! Hurray !

Posted by Ub3rG33k on Jan 9, 2009 in Apple

Well, as planned, we went to the Apple store in Leicester after work today.

If you’ve never been to an Apple store before, then I can highly recommend it. If you asked me to describe what heaven looked like, it would be an Apple store.

We walked though the …… looking for the store as we’ve never venture to …. before. Walked through the carpark, through John Lewis (the store, not a person, LOL)….saw next, new look and the I saw it, no words outside the shop, just a huge 10 foot illuminated apple logo above the door. I swear, it was like seeing a roller coaster for the first time :) (as you can probably tell, this is the first time I’ve been to a Apple store, I know, I need to get out more)

Walking into the store itself, first table had 6 macbooks, all connected to Iphones,  next table had MacBook Pro’s both the 15″ and 17″ models all connected to Iphones, all with internet access.

Down the outside wall, there was just a wall of Imac 24″ s (so nearly bought one of them too).

The staff in there were chilled, very chilled, weren’t pushy and really helpful, Very very sweet place !

Anyway, to cut a long ish story short, we walked out of there is a 15.4″ MacBook Pro, a pair of the earbud headphones, a wireless mighty mouse, and a dock for my Ipod Touch :)
